Job Description
DYCD is seeking a Community Coordinator for a grant funded position to help lead its efforts to support the Youth Homelessness System Improvement (YHSI) project. The goal of the project is to increase the efficiency of the system for accessing a bed in a DYCD RHY Crisis or TIL program by creating an easy-to-navigate, youth-informed platform (or other technology), improving workflow, and developing new policies that allow homeless youth and young adults (YYA) and other system users in the NYC five-county geographic area access to real-time information about bed vacancies in DYCD’s RHY residential programs. The Community Coordinator will provide support in five distinct project activities:
(1) Conducting a planning process for the development of a simple, centralized referral, assessment and intake system for DYCD’s RHY residential programs;
(2) Adopting a human-centered design process to develop the necessary technology for the new user-friendly, centralized referral, assessment and intake system ;
(3) Pilot-testing the new platform/technology;
(4) Making adjustments to the new technology based on the findings from the Pilot; and
(5) Fully implementing the new real-time centralized entry system to the RHY residential programs for all users, along with the necessary technological enhancements.
Under the supervision of the Deputy Director, the Community Coordinator will perform the following duties: Act as a liaison between city agencies, provider organizations and youth during the planning process.
- Coordinate youth involvement including participation in planning meetings and other stakeholder
conversations
- Plan, implement and support programs related to RHY services by evaluating and researching
program needs and consulting with key personnel in order to facilitate delivery of services.
- Utilize and become proficient with DYCD’s web-based information technology program
management systems, such as PTS/EMS.
- Conduct visits at locations in all five boroughs to assess programmatic and administrative issues
help improve quality of services.
- Create summary reports and program analyses to inform management and make
recommendations to improve program performance.

COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
Must have lived youth homelessness experience - Experience or knowledge of at-risk, runaway, homeless, and vulnerable youth or other youth development programming - Background in working with community-based organizations - Requires project management skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and meticulous attention to detail - Must possess strong oral and written communication, organizational, and analytical skills - Experience with data management information systems - Ability to think and act strategically and proactively - Proficient in Microsoft Office.
