WorkWell NYC is New York City’s worksite wellness program, housed within the Mayor’s Office of Labor Relations. WorkWell NYC’s core mission is to create workplaces that engage and empower NYC’s 380,000+ employees to live healthy, active lifestyles at work, at home, and beyond. To achieve this goal, WorkWell NYC develops and implements programming across 5 key areas: healthy eating, physical activity, mental well-being, preventative health behaviors and health equity. The WorkWell NYC team works with agency partners to build a culture of wellness where employees feel supported and empowered to take care of their health.
The WorkWell NYC Senior Communications and Marketing Manager is responsible for the oversight and strategic development of innovative communication programs and marketing campaigns to enhance the health and well-being of the city’s 380,000 employees. The Senior Communications and Marketing Manager will supervise 2-3 staff and interns who design and execute these programs. As a member of the WorkWell NYC Leadership team, the Manager will be responsible for: presentations and reporting, budget management, hiring, staff performance and development, coordination with internal and external partners/vendors, team cohesion, amongst other responsibilities.
This role is ideal for candidates with extensive communication and marketing experience, a track record of community health promotion, strong project management skills and supervisory experience.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and lead communications strategy for WorkWell NYC and its programs, including planning for all communication channels and audiences, preparing and drafting materials (digital content, promotional materials, summative reports, podcasts, blog posts, etc.), and managing vendors.
- Work with internal and external partners (other city agency and union communication teams) to increase awareness and participation in WorkWell NYC programs.
- Develop and supervise staff who will create video testimonials, social media content, newsletters, and other collateral that promote WorkWell NYC programs and events.
- Create and edit and oversee staff who will create PowerPoint/Canva presentations, brochures, one-pagers, newsletters, and other materials that provide assessable health and wellness information for a diverse workforce.
- Identify innovative initiatives to enhance employee health and well-being.
- Provide staff development opportunities for direct reports and other members of the team on effective communication strategies.
- Develop training programs for WorkWell NYC Ambassadors and staff on effective communications.
- Manage communication and marketing project plans to ensure successful, on-time implementation.
- Track and analyze communication and marketing outputs and outcomes and report on metrics regularly.
- Supervise team of staff including hiring, performance management, staff development, assignments.
- Manage program budgets.
- Participate in agency/site-based health forums (i.e.-health fairs, educational programs) to promote WorkWell NYC worksite programs.
- Create an effective communications strategy for WorkWell NYC.
- Other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

1. For Assignment Level I (only physical, biological and environmental sciences and public health) A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have:
1. A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and one year of full-time experience in a responsible supervisory, administrative or research capacity in the appropriate field of specialization; or
2. A master's degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological, environmental or social science and three years of responsible full-time research experience in the appropriate field of specialization; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least a master's degree in an appropriate field of specialization and at least two years of experience described in "2" above. Two years as a City Research Scientist Level I can be substituted for the experience required in "1" and "2" above.

Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.


Preferred Skills

- Experience in overseeing and implementing workplace and/or community-based wellness communications experience in government, community health, large organizational settings - Knowledge of workplace wellness initiatives, union engagement and/or public engagement - Knowledge of behavioral science approach to communication/marketing - Experience editing and copywriting - Outstanding organizational, time management and planning skills - Experience supervising staff - Budget management - Comfortable engaging staff, conducting outreach calls and relationship building with frontline staff and leadership - Ability to work independently and part of a team while managing time effectively in a fast-paced environment - A team player with ability to engage and work with diverse stakeholders - Strong project management skills, with an ability to anticipate, prioritize and manage multiple tasks - Professional demeanor that demonstrates warmth, responsiveness and credibility - Ability to work flexible morning/weekend/evening hours (on a limited basis, with advance notice), including weekends and evenings.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
