The Wildlife Unit fosters stewardship for NYC Parks, supports healthy urban wildlife populations and promotes quality of life for all New Yorkers through education, programs, policies, procedures and management plans that encourage coexistence between people and wildlife in New York City.
Major Responsibilities
- Under general direction, with wide latitude for independent initiative and judgment, perform research, analysis and planning for the Wildlife Unit.
- Prepare regularly scheduled statistical and narrative reports to support wildlife management and conservation initiatives including the Deer Impact Management Plan and the Rockaway Beach Endangered Species Nesting Area.
- Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software to create maps as needed.
- Use statistical programs to conduct analysis for wildlife research and management applications.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define, complete and evaluate projects, touching on all aspects of Agency and divisional operations.
- Research, evaluate and recommend best practices for adoption by the division.
- Prepare analyses, statistical tools and coordinate presentations that empower division staff to make data-informed decisions.
- Coordinate consultants and contracts for wildlife management and research study as well as other wildlife contracts as needed.
- Manage project milestones to ensure timely work completion.
- Review contractor reports with appropriate Agency staff.
- Coordinate purchasing for Wildlife Unit needs.
- Perform wildlife management field work and special projects as needed.

COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
1. Bachelor’s degree with a focus in environmental science, ecology, wildlife biology, geography, GIS or related field. 2. Excellent oral and written communication, presentation and organizational skills. 3. Experience in environmental education or conservation. 4. Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently. 5. Experience using data management statistical and GIS software. 6. Experience in computer programming languages. 7. Proficiency with Microsoft Office software, especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel. 8. Valid New York State driver license.
