The NYC Parks' Wildlife Unit promotes coexistence between people and urban wildlife. As an informed resource for citizens and policymakers, the Wildlife Unit serves as an ambassador for New York City's diverse wildlife communities.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, implement protocols for wildlife monitoring, management and population control studies.
- Under supervision, conduct wildlife research projects that support conservation initiatives including the Deer Impact Management Plan and the Rockaway Beach Endangered Species Nesting Area.
- Implement public engagement opportunities, attend meetings, events and outreach.
- Collect wildlife related data.
- Write reports and create maps and other documents detailing the fieldwork of the Wildlife Unit.
- Assist with special projects.

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
1. Experience with ArcGIS. 2. Attention to detail ability to handle sensitive information. 3. Experience in wildlife management, conservation or public program management. 4. Experience in, or history of volunteerism (E.g. AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, NYC Service, etc.) is a plus. 5. Proficiency in computer software including Microsoft Word, Excel and Access. 6. Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational and customer service skills. 7. Ability to handle a large workload with a variety of deadlines. 8. Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends. 9. A degree with a focus on environmental science or education, ecology, wildlife biology or related areas. 10. Valid New York State driver license.
