Job Description

The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person. We exist to provide answers in support of families, victims, and community during times of profound need.

OCME is seeking an employee to provide programmatic support for a variety of worksite wellness initiatives that aim to improve the health and well-being of our employees. The OCME Wellness Program focuses on improving the health and productivity of the agency’s workforce of approximately 730 employees. The program’s core mission is to create a workplace that engages and empowers employees to live healthy, active lifestyles and to utilize health and well-being services, programs, and resources offered to NYC employees and their families. To achieve this goal, OCME works closely with the City Wellness Program, Work Well NYC, to develop and implement programming across 4 key areas: healthy eating, physical activity, mental well-being, and preventative health behaviors. The OCME Program Assistant will support program development and implementation, create promotional materials, and track program outcomes. Projects and responsibilities can be shaped by personal interests and skills, but will include:

- Researching innovative and effective workplace wellness programming in relevant topic areas
- Developing educational materials to promote health and well-being.
- Working with program staff to support successful implementation of workplace programs (i.e., physical activity challenges, flu vaccination clinics, and chronic disease prevention)

- Strategizing ways to promote engagement among OCME employees at all.
- Making site visits to assist with program implementation.
