The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
The Department of Social Services/Office of Labor Relations (OLR) is recruiting for an Administrative Director of Social Services, NM-I to function as a Wellness Coordinator who under the executive direction of the Deputy Commissioner for Labor Relations, with wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and action, carries out the responsibility for managing DSS-HRA-DHS work-life and work-wellness initiatives across all program areas. The Wellness Coordinator will be responsible for designing, developing and implementing the agency’s WorkWell program in conjunction with the Mayor’s Office of Labor Relations.
In addition, the Wellness Coordinator will:
Collaborate with the Mayor’s Office of Labor Relations to leverage citywide resources to assist the agency in developing work-life and work wellness programs that will help employees live healthy, active lifestyles, and to provide health and well-being services, programs, and resources at the worksite. Represents the agency as needed at external meetings and will apprise agency leadership of any significant changes to the WorkWell program.
Coordinate and collaborate with agency Employee Programs, the Diversity Council, and other agency leaders monthly to identify and develop programming to improve work-life conditions and wellness. Promote the Wellness program within the Agency.
Attend and oversee wellness programming at different borough locations and provides assistance as needed. Serves as the fulltime “Super Ambassador”, coordinating the efforts of voluntary “Ambassadors” and “Champions” at the individual work locations.
Establish a network of voluntary ambassadors and champions at individual work locations to implement the program and ensure that these staff members are well supported in their efforts to bring WorkWell programming to their worksites.
Ensure the continued success of the following WorkWell NYC initiatives such as Flu Clinics; Step Challenges; Weight Watchers; Diabetes Prevention Program; Smoking Cessation Program; Stress Management Webinars; Fitness Classes.
Consult with Deputy Commissioner for Labor Relations in developing metrics to track program success and prepares statistical reports and presentations on an as needed basis to City Office of Labor Relations and Agency Worklife Committees.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of progressively responsible experience, including one year at the administrative or managerial level in a large governmental agency, business firm, civic or community organization operating in the area of social services; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must have a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and the one year of experience at the administrative or management level as described in "1" above.
• Strong writing skills and strong communication skills • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word and Excel in particular)
