The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Welder in the Bureau of Fleet Services. Reporting directly to the Supervisor of Mechanics, the successful candidate will:
1. Read and work from blueprints, sketches and working drawings.
2. Properly use the various types of welding rods and machines, such as mig, tig, bore welding machines, servo graft burning machines, etc. Pre-heat and clean metal. Lay out, cut and fit materials for welding. Weld machinery and equipment. Use special hand and power tools
3. Braze various non-ferrous metals. Brush and grind welds. Perform basic rigging as required
4. Operate motor vehicles and equipment in the performance of assigned duties

Qualification Requirements
Five years of full-time welding experience acquired within the last ten years doing electric arc and oxy-acetylene welding in all positions on both light and heavy material. Two years of this experience must have been in oxy-acetylene welding.
License Requirements
Possession of a valid Welder's License issued by the New York City Department of Buildings, and certified for at least Class I Restricted Qualification Shop and Field (for groove welding of materials 3/4 inches or less in thickness, and for all fillet welding, both in all positions). At the time of appointment, appointees will be required to possess a Certificate of Fitness Type G38 Torch Use of 0-2 Combustion Gas, issued by the New York City Fire Department. Employees must maintain the Welder's License and the Certificate of Fitness during their employment.
