Job Description

The NYPD's Office of the Deputy Commissioner, Public Information is seeking a Webmaster to support the development, maintenance, and optimization of websites within a City government, law enforcement environment. This role involves managing web content, ensuring site functionality and accessibility, implementing updates, and supporting compliance with State and City web standards. The Webmaster's duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Design, develop, and support web content with Blogs, RSS/News feeds, audio and video, and social networking services and their associated APIs.
- Coordinate with various Bureaus and commands to provide solutions, drafting the final version for publication.
- Provide input and feedback to content owners and management support on design, aesthetics, and implementation of enriching features and technologies within a government, law enforcement environment.
- Perform reviews and audit actions for websites and online content for relevant and timely information, compliance with regulations and policy.
- Perform maintenance, administration, and enhancement of websites and web-based services.
- Design and implement links that comply with policies and regulations. Identify changes necessary to upgrade websites and services.
- Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain; or
4. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.
Preferred Skills
- The ideal candidate will have experience with content management systems, web design best practices, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative setting. - Experience in web development and webmaster support as follows: Perform the graphical design, site planning and layout of web applications, websites, and web related services and technology utilizing dynamic and static web interfaces using HTML, DHTML, VB Script, Java Scripts, and Cascading Style Sheets. - Experience designing, developing, and supporting web content with Blogs, RSS/News feeds, audio and video, and social networking services and their associated APIs. - Experience creating SharePoint pages and content utilizing basic web parts, administering permissions and groups, updating information, creating workflows, and basic maintenance procedures. - Knowledge of performing reviews and audit actions for websites and online content for relevant and timely information, compliance with regulations and policy. - Solid oral and written communications skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills are required. - Ability to analyze and assess existing and emerging technologies to determine relevance to existing web environments.
