The Dyckman Farmhouse Museum, located in Inwood at Broadway and West 204 Street, is a Dutch Colonial style farmhouse built in 1784. The Dyckman family lived in the farmhouse for almost a century and opened as a museum in 1916. The museum is operated by NYC Parks and the Historic House Trust.

Major Responsibilities
- Under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgment, perform work in any phase of community outreach; perform assigned tasks to provide necessary community engagement for the Dyckman Farmhouse Museum.
- Collaborate with a very small staff to ensure the preservation and maintenance of the historic site.
- Implement existing history-based tours at the site, while staying up to date on ongoing historic research to disseminate to the public.
- Foster existing relationships with community members and organizations and explore opportunities for further outreach.
- Collaborate with the Digital Content & Programs Manager on all aspects of public programming including planning, preparation and implementation.
- Prepare and distribute program and event fliers.
- Handle administrative tasks as necessary to support the operation of the site.
- Research, schedule and work community outreach events.
- Assist in all aspects of historic site maintenance, including regularly scheduled grounds maintenance and collaboration with Parks on repairs.
- Assist in daily museum operations and be able to interact with visitors and communicate historical information about the site and New York City in a knowledgeable and professional manner.
- Be responsible for the safety and security of the historic site when Director is not present.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

1. Bachelor's degree in History, Education or related field preferred. 2. Experience in community organizing/engagement, educational programming or related field. 3. Strong program- and relationship-management skills with ability to collaborate with internal and external partners to achieve shared objectives. 4. Demonstrated understanding of American history and experience in customer service. 5. Spanish language skills highly desirable. 6. Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and Publisher. 7. Ability to work with diverse age ranges, from school groups to adults. 8. Flexibility in scheduling based on a very small staff structure- weekend schedule and occasional evening work to accommodate public programs and public hours required. 9. Ability to set up and breakdown for community engagement events, including setting up tables, chairs, etc. as needed.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
