Job Description

IF YOU ARE HIRED PROVISIONALLY AS A CLERICAL ASSOCIATE III, YOU MUST TAKE AND PASS THE CLERICAL ASSOCIATE CIVIL SERVICE EXAM WHEN IT BECOMES AVAILABLE.


Bureau of Fraud Investigation (BFI) is mandated to conduct investigations of individuals and organized groups allegedly committing fraudulent acts against the social service programs administered by HRA/DSS. The Investigation Division (ID) within BFI, oversees and investigates several mandated NYS projects such as the Massachusetts Border Match, 1099 Match and the Bank Match as well as internal generated projects.

The division also plays an active role in the timely investigation and resolution of BFI’s quarterly PARIS Match and assists with the field visits for the Prison Match. ID continues to have an ongoing investigative partnership with the Office of Welfare Inspector General (OWIG) and New York City Housing Authority Inspector General (NYCHA IG).

The BFI is recruiting for one (1) Clerical Associate III to function as a Unit Clerk, who will:

- Enter specific case record information and other data pertinent to the operation into IREA internal database systems. Update previous information and retrieve case information when requested.

- Review information from input forms for completeness and accuracy by comparing information from computer matches against information on source document.

- Maintain control of all cases assigned to the unit and ensure that all documents and cases are appropriately filed.

- Compile case records for investigative review and ensure that folders contain necessary forms.

- Prepare detailed weekly and/or monthly statistical reports, worksheets or other reports that may contain the number of processed checks and/or eligible/ineligible recommendations made.

- Perform important clerical functions including, typing, answering telephones, filing and processing incoming and outgoing mail/correspondence.

- Performs other related duties and special projects as assigned.

Hours/Schedule: 9-5


Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.


Preferred Skills

- Excellent verbal, written, interpretive, and interpersonal communication skills - Working knowledge of HRA / IREA systems including WMS, and HRA Viewer - Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel - Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines - Ability to multi-task efficiently and effectively - Bi-lingual ability a plus

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
