The NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.
The Finance Information Technology (FIT) Division provides support for all facets of DOF's computer systems, including infrastructure, network server, hardware, software, applications, and data security. FIT delivers the information and technology solutions that DOF needs to achieve its mission of collecting tax revenue and administering tax related programs for the City of New York.
FIT is looking for an experienced and creative UI/UX Designer capable of creating breakthrough digital solutions to turn our online products and services into intuitive, innovative, and seamless experiences for all New Yorkers. As a key member of FIT's Customer Engagement and Collaboration Technology team, you will help ensure that our customers' end-to-end journey is aesthetic, easy, and rewarding. At the same time, you will work closely with the Enterprise Architect, Web Team, product owners, developers, and business users to ensure alignment with DOF's business and strategic vision.
Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:
- Designing, developing, and producing seamless digital experiences with a focus on human-centered design.
- Ensuring design solutions adhere to best practices for usability and accessibility and to agency style and usage guides.
- Leading design workshops to elicit and understand the user's needs.
- Evaluating user stories/requirements and success criteria in collaboration with business analysts, product owners, project managers, and engineers.
- Working closely with product and project teams to strategically solve complex business problems and serve our customers.
- Creating and presenting UX/UI design artifacts - such as flows, sketches, wireframes, and prototypes - to communicate the desired end state and build consensus.
- Driving a human-centered, iterative, and collaborative design process revolving around rapid prototyping, user research, continuous improvement & deployment.
- Planning and conducting usability testing sessions to validate design decisions.
- Contributing to coherent visual and interaction designs across flows and channels.
- Conducting stakeholder interviews, analyzing customer feedback, usability, and researching user behavior to enhance existing products.
- Creating user personas, journey maps, and user flows to guide design processes.
- Testing new ideas before implementing.
- Adjusting design based on user feedback.
1. High school graduation or equivalent and two years of training in an approved technical school in oils, water colors, painting, design, black and white, layout and other art media and seven years full-time paid experience as a commercial artist, four years of which must have been in supervision and planning of art work done by a staff; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1". However, all candidates must have the four years of supervisory experience as described above
- 5+ years of experience as a UI-UX Designer or similar role. - 3-5 years of experience with HTML5 & CSS3 and basic front-end development concepts. - Familiarity with responsive and mobile-first design approaches. - Strong visual design skills with an eye for typography, color theory, and layout composition. - Experience with web and mobile development and CMS systems a plus. - UI design portfolio. - Ability to discuss and explain design options. - Agile project management skills. - Problem solver and customer centered.
