The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is seeking well-qualified staff whose diverse backgrounds reflect an ability to serve the over 1.4 million members of the Bronx County community and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. As part of a commitment to enhancing victim safety, holding offenders accountable, and building community trust, the Domestic Violence Bureau seeks a qualified Trial Preparation Assistant LV 3 to aid in the pre-arrest and post-arrest investigation and prosecution of serious domestic violence crimes committed by high priority offenders.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Monitor daily high priority defendant pre-arrest and post-arrest alerts.
Conference with Domestic Violence Bureau (DVB) management and senior Assistant District Attorneys (ADAs) to prioritize cases, investigate charges and determine additional evidence
needed for Grand Jury and trial.
Collaborate with assigned ADAs to assist with GJ presentation and gathering additional evidence for trial.
Draft legal documents including, Criminal Complaints and Indictments, Orders to Produce, So-ordered subpoenas, Search Warrants, Protective Orders, motion responses and other documents needed for investigation, GJ presentation and trial.
Ensure all defendant statements are obtained in a timely manner for GJ presentation.
Review Body Worn Camera for defendant statements and additional evidence.
Perform legal research.
Secure, listen to, and transcribe defendant phone calls from the Department of Correction.
Engage in witness contact and communication. Connect with Victims for introduction and scheduling interviews with assigned ADAs.
Communicate with Crime Victims Assistance Bureau staff regarding victim participation in criminal prosecution and victim service needs.
Collect evidence and discovery.
Coordinate with New York City Police Department (NYPD) to expedite discovery requests and to request additional evidence collection.
Communicate with and acquire documents from other agencies, such as NYPD, DOC, ACS, OCME, hospitals, or wherever documents are located. Subpoena additional evidence as directed.
Compile, analyze, and reproduce case documents. Prepare discovery packets and ensure proper redaction of documentation, draft Automatic Discovery Forms, Certificates of Compliance and
Statements of Readiness.
Visit precincts and other locations to obtain discovery and evidence as needed.
Attend regular stakeholder case update meetings.
Conduct training for NYPD and Victim Services Providers along with DVB management/senior ADAs.
Track all investigations/cases to ensure accurate data collection for program evaluation and reports.
Perform other bureau-related duties as needed or assigned, including, but not limited to, drafting or typing correspondence and confidential documents, updating computer-based tracking
systems, record keeping, and filing.

COMMUNITY COORDINATOR - 56058
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
A baccalaureate degree preferred or a High School diploma/GED and prior work experience in a law firm, governmental agency, civic or community organization. Candidate should possess analytical and problem-solving skills, a sense of responsibility, and an ability to work well independently and in a team environment. Excellent written and verbal interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel and case management software. Familiarity with general court services and functions. Understanding of the criminal justice system used in New York State and New York City. Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics. Exhibit an ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
