The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is seeking a well-qualified employee whose diverse background reflects an ability to serve the over 1.4 million residents of the Bronx County and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The Bronx County District Attorney’s Office is seeking a Training Coordinator to assist the Chief of Professional Staff training in training the professional staff. Responsible for scheduling staff for trainings, create attendance sheets, lecture, record attendance, and update all training databases documenting the attendance of staff. Must become proficient in understanding CPL 160.59 and will be assigned CPL 160.59 motions to create folders and save the paperwork on the N: drive, update the sealing database and BXDA, review, research if necessary, and draft the People’s response for the Chief to ultimately sign. Required to assist the general public who come to the office to serve a CPL 160.59 motion/application and be able to provide the proper guidance as to sufficiency of the motion/application and be able to explain the steps after the motion is served on the District Attorney. Required to develop and present lectures to support staff on topics that may be helpful to the staff.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Administrative duties:
Create and maintain registration list of attendees.
Create sign-in sheets for all training programs.
Prepare training folders with program materials.
Send reminder emails and calendar invitations for training programs.
Assist with check-ins for training programs.
Update the training databases for all personnel attending training programs.
Create announcement flyers for the training programs.
Create training program certificates for in-house training programs.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel computer programs.
Contact outside agencies regarding CPL 160.59 Sealing applications.
Be professional, courteous to all staff and outside agencies.
Accept, have completed and submit DCAS applications when the Bureau Chief is out of the office.
Notify staff of approved DCAS classes when Bureau Chief is out of the office.
Answer general support staff questions regarding training programs or difficulty with assignments.
Maintain Supervisor training spread sheet.
Contact outside training agencies for availability, scheduling and pricing.
Create presentations and lecture during training to assist TPAs in their duties.
Become proficient in the Office Discovery protocols.
Assist the Bureau Chief with creating new training programs.
Draft motion responses for CPL 160.59 motions
Motion must be scanned and attached to the “I” drive and labeled properly.
Motion must be reviewed ensuring it adheres to the requirements of the statute.
If motions are incomplete or incorrect must draft correspondence to the defendant and/or defense counsel detailing the errors made on the application and how to correct the errors.
Must have eJustice access and maintain an eJustice log.
Must review the defendant’s criminal history report and make a determination whether the defendant qualifies to have his/her record sealed.
Draft an appropriate motion response based on the defendant’s criminal history report (i.e., rap sheet) and CPL 160.59 criteria. Be able to research unique legal arguments using Westlaw.
File answering affirmations with Supreme and Criminal Court clerks.
Contact outside agencies regarding CPL 160.59 Sealing applications.
Must update Sealing database with all documents associated with sealing motion/application.
Must update BXDA database with all documents associated with sealing motion/application.
Must update Word document to track pending motions requiring a response.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A baccalaureate degree preferred or a high school diploma with four (4) years of work experience in a law firm or District Attorney’s Office[RJ(1] .
Candidate should possess excellent analytical, logical thinking and problem-solving skills, a sense of responsibility, and an ability to work well independently and in a team environment.
Excellent written and verbal interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Exceptional organizational skills and strong attention to detail.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and case management software
A working knowledge of BronxDA applications: Case Tracking System (BXDA), FTS, Discovery Checklist
Must know how to use Adobe Pro DC, when redacting documents. Must be able to create training material and PowerPoint presentations; Must know and understand the Duties of a Trial
Preparation Assistant (all levels).
Must possess good public speaking skills.
Ability to lecture on critical Trial Preparation Assistant (TPA) topics such as recognition of police paperwork, how to order various trial documents and all other duties of a TPA (all levels).
Must be able to collaborate with other staff and City Agencies.
Ability to exercise good judgment and strong ethics.
Exhibit an ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
