Under general supervision, operates and does minor maintenance on earth moving, hauling equipment, tractors, and compactors. Operates a bladed tractor pay-loader, backhoe, and bobcat to move or level piles of earth. Applies earth cover to active banks and keeps bank platform clear of material being deposited. Builds, maintains, and cleans all roads. Using a front-end loader, loads refuse and other material into pay-haulers and trucks. Maintains the pit area, including in front of and behind the pit walls, infields and haul roads. Drive all related equipment to active work sites, and coordinates dumping movements with supervisors to maximize the efficient placement of earth material. Inspects, tests, evaluates and maintains all assigned equipment; checks fuel, water lubricants, etc: makes minor and emergency repairs and adjustments to all assigned equipment; cleans assigned equipment, windows, and cabs utilizing power washer. Keeps records and makes reports as required. Will perform operating engineer duties operating the following equipment: backhoe, track loader, rubber tire loader, excavator (track and tire), skid steer, skid steer with milling attachment, bull dozer, robotic and demolition machines.

Preference will be given to candidates who possess a Commercial Driver's License B (CDLB) or a Commercial Driver's License A (CDLA) valid in the state of New York. License must be maintained throughout duration of employment in DOT.

This is a nine-month seasonal position starting in March and ending in December of each year. This position requires passing a pre-employment medical and drug screening, and is subject to random drug testing. Selected candidates will be required to work in any borough ,or on any shift our in DOT.

1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last 15 years in the operation of heavy duty track-type tractors; or

2. Not less than three years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "1" above, plus either two years in the maintenance of heavy duty track-type tractors, or relevant training acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade or vocational high school.
License Requirement
Possession of a Class B Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York. There may be certain age requirements to obtain this license. Employees must maintain the Class B Commercial Driver License during their employment.
