The Department of Design & Construction, Human Resources and Staff Development seeks a highly motivated individual to serve as the Timekeeper/Payroll Assistant, reporting to the Executive Director of Payroll & Time Management. The Timekeeper/ Payroll Assistant will be tasked with the following: reviewing weekly time records in the CityTime System; monitoring agency weekly time-sheets, adjusting, and re-approving time-sheets which may require corrective action, and approving pay and leave events; serving as an Assistant CityTime Administrator, ensuring that employees are in correct approval and reporting trees, creating and assisting employee’s schedules, overriding existing schedules, when necessary; preparing and reviewing CityTime and CHRMS reports to ensure that the information is accurate and complete; assisting payroll with the processing of quarterly differentials, payroll pick-up at the Office of Payroll Administration (OPA), checks distribution and other related payroll functions; resolving and obtaining answers to complex problems and instructing staff members on appropriate procedures; maintaining the filing system for active and inactive employees; assisting with the preparation of Managerial Lump Sums; and performing all related duties and serving as back-up to the other time-keepers.


Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.


Preferred Skills

Candidate must demonstrate interpersonal, diplomacy, reliability, and organizational skills. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, particulary Excel. Can handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion. Knowledge of Payroll Operations Unit and/or Citywide Time and Leave Regulations and/or New York City payroll applications such as CHRMS, PMS, and RMDS, is a plus. All related trainings will be provided.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
