The Fire Department, City of New York (FDNY), seeks a full-time Telephone Services Unit Supervisor in the Bureau of Technology Systems and Development. Reporting directly to the Executive Director, the successful candidate is responsible for the Unit that oversees day to day operations of FDNY Telephony Service at over 400 facilities and close to 10,000 circuits throughout the city. The Telephone Services Unit Supervisor will be responsible for administrative tasks required to oversee day to day activities of the Unit, ensure that all repairs, programming and installations are properly addressed, completed, monitored and take appropriate action to escalate problems when necessary. Design various plans and reports relative to all project activities and outside dependencies. Coordinate with Telephone Service Vendors to research service status and updates to repairs and installations. Develop and monitor effective and efficient Project “works flows” that require participation and support from several Bureaus and Vendors. Evaluate and perform intricate telephony system configuration using various Verizon applications. Implement and oversee various processing, tracking, and monitoring systems. Direct vendors and service providers regarding telephony systems support and maintenance application upgrades. Maintain a higher level of knowledge and skill set of the various applications and databases to troubleshoot and act as an in-house technical support of the various applications. Ensure that staff is properly trained in numerous new applications and systems that are required to support the various telephony systems and services that are used by the Department. Supervise and oversee the Telephone Units personnel, monitor attendance, lateness, as well as coordinate vacation schedules and schedules days off in order to ensure proper staffing levels, conduct Supervisory conferences if necessary.


Minimum Qualifications

1. A master's degree from an accredited college in economics, finance, accounting, business or public administration, public health, human resources management, management science, operations research, organizational behavior, industrial psychology, statistics, personnel administration, labor relations, psychology, sociology, human resources development, political science, urban studies or a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, and one year of satisfactory full-time professional experience in one or a combination of the following: working with the budget of a large public or private concern in budget administration, accounting, economic or financial administration, or fiscal or economic research; in management or methods analysis, operations research, organizational research or program evaluation; in personnel or public administration, recruitment, position classification, personnel relations, labor relations, employee benefits, staff development, employment program planning/administration, labor market research, economic planning, social services program planning/evaluation, or fiscal management, or in a related area; or

2. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time professional experience in the areas described in "1" above.

3.An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and five years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in “1” above.

4. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State’s department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and seven years of satisfactory full-time professional experience as described in “1” above.

5.A combination of education and/or experience equivalent to “1”, “2”, “3”, or “4” above. College education may be substituted for professional experience at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma and at least one year of experience as described in “1” above.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
