The Information Technology Bureau (ITB) plays an integral role in establishing the NYPD as one of the leading counterterrorism and crime-fighting forces in the nation, developing and implementing cutting-edge technology to support strategies, programs, and procedures that promote safety, efficiency, and effectiveness.

The Telephone Service Technician II position encompasses work to be performed with low voltage and associated type of wiring. This will require installing, altering, maintaining, or repair of telecommunications systems, including but not limited to burglar alarm, telephone, intercom PA, security camera, and electronic door entry systems. Work on these systems or associated wiring may require either work to be performed within outdoor or indoor spaces. Coordinate and be responsible to survey a location for new system installations as well as trouble shoot existing systems for issues that need to be addressed.


Minimum Qualifications

1. Four years of full-time, satisfactory journey-level experience, acquired within the last ten years, in the maintenance, installation, or repair of telephone communications systems and equipment; or

2. Three years of full-time experience as described in "1" above, plus graduation from a recognized vocational or trade high school, with a major sequence of courses in electrical or electronic technology; or

3. Two years of full-time experience as described in "1" above, plus an A.A.S. degree from a community college or 60 college credits in a major sequence of courses in electrical or electronic technology.

4. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1", "2", or "3" above.

License Requirement
A Motor Vehicle Drivers License valid in the State of New York. Employees must maintain the license for the duration of their employment.

Special Note
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, candidates must have, in addition to the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience in Assignment Level I or in a supervisory capacity.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
