Job Description

Candidate will oversee all plumbing work performed on NYCHA properties; ensure plumbing activities are performed in a technically correct manner and in compliance with governmental regulations.

Specific duties shall include, but not be limited to the following:

1. Utilize master plumber’s license to pull work permits as required by the DOB for all work on NYCHA buildings; oversee all jobs issued under his/her license; ensure work is progressing as planned and performed as required by DOB rules and regulations.
2. Ensure compliance of NYCHA gas regulations as they pertain to gas service restoration; oversee the final gas test and restoration of gas service to NYCHA residents for cooking, heat and hot water.
3. Conduct field visits throughout all five boroughs to monitor work issued under DOB permits; coordinate site meetings and visits with borough plumbers to monitor and ensure all permitted work is being performed as per code and schedule.
4. Provide technical support and advice regarding all aspects of plumbing to borough plumbing supervisors and management/maintenance staff. Technical support can include assisting other municipalities and city agencies and/or reviewing Capital Projects, Technical Services or Borough plumbing contracts.
5. Oversee contract work
6. Review contract documents for accuracy and best industry standard practices
7. Review material submissions on behalf of the authority and approve or disapprove as per industry standards

Note: Possession of a NYC Master’s Plumbing License and Driver’s License valid in the State of New York is required for this position.

NOTE: As a licensed plumber, position may require work as a Department of Building (DOB) inspector upon agreement between NYCHA and DOB to conduct DOB inspections for the replacement/installation of the gas piping.

NOTE: Due to the existence of a civil service list, candidates must have permanent civil service status in the title of Supervisor Plumber to be considered.

1. Seven (7) years of recent, satisfactory, full-time, paid experience as a plumber, at least two (2) years of which must have been spent in duties of a supervisory nature; or
2. A satisfactory equivalent.
