The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of New York City’s children and families by providing child welfare, juvenile justice, and early care services. In child welfare, ACS contracts with private nonprofit organizations to support and stabilize families at risk of a crisis through preventive services and provides foster care services for children not able to safely remain at home. Each year, the agency’s Division of Child Protection responds to more than 50,000 reports of suspected child abuse or neglect. In juvenile justice, ACS manages and funds services including detention and placement, intensive community-based alternatives for youth, and support services for families. ACS is also a key part of NYCs early childhood and education continuum, providing child care assistance to thousands of child welfare involved and low-income children so they can access safe, affordable, quality care.
Under the direction of The Deputy Director of the Technical Assistance Team, the Technical Assistance Specialist provides support by way of consultations to contracted providers of prevention programs. The Technical Assistance Specialist is responsible for providing guidance, resources and support around connecting with internal and external stakeholders in ACS; as well as, in the community. Knowledge and experience of the Prevention services continuum, and child welfare are extremely beneficial in this role.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop expertise in the continuum of Preventive Child welfare including Prevention services.
- Provide technical assistance to support providers in resolving issues with cases.
- Consult with Prevention providers to understand the needs of client families and then make appropriate model matches to a program within the Prevention continuum.
- Contact Prevention Providers to locate an appropriate opening for families in need of prevention services.
- Manage a portfolio of agencies and provide guidance and support to contracted providers.
- Analyze and review data and then present findings to the appropriate parties.
- Record and report out on work activities/findings and offer appropriate next step recommendations.
- Hold office hours as needed using Microsoft Teams
- Obtain information and resources that will be useful for stakeholders and contracted providers.
- Participate in special projects as necessary and take on other tasks as assigned.
- Connect providers to internal and external stakeholders as necessary.
- Participate in group and individual supervision -
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
The preferred candidate will possess strong communication skills and the ability to produce well-written and timely reports. Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs. Knowledge of Child Welfare and Prevention Services and issues around housing insecurity. The ability to work effectively across multiple disciplines.
