The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the City’s evolving criminal justice system, participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for staff, visitors, volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly, safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 9,000 diverse professionals and knowledge experts

The DOC seeks to recruit Tablet Program Coordinators to support the Division of Programs and Community Partnerships. Under the guidance of the Deputy Director of tablet Operations, the selected candidates will assist with the management and operationalization of tablet-based programming and engagement opportunities in all NYC DOC facilities (Rikers Island and VCBC). Select facilities will have needs for evening/ weekend schedules. The Tablet Program Coordinator’s responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following:

- Distribute tablets to individuals in custody (obtain and provide login information; offer onsite support
to individuals in custody and monitor transfers in and out of units/ assigned facility).
- Retrieve tablets upon discharges and ensure all outcomes are reflected in daily data.
- Conduct inspections of tablets to ensure all devices are in a state of good repair.
- Collaborate with facility staff and individuals in custody nsure adherence to tablet policy.
- Ensure individuals in custody understand tablet policies and procedures.
- Maintain a facility presence through conducting daily tours as assigned.
- Maintain daily tablet inventories and reports and perform qualitative and quantitative data collection
and analysis.
- Collaborate with uniform staff, non-uniform staff, external contracted partners, and people in
custody and participate in/ prepare materials for/ lead meetings as required.
- Maintain and monitor records of content engagement and tablet utilization
and develop strategies to encourage program engagement through the tablets.
- Perform facility-based / in-unit support as needed and maintain a facility presence through
conducting weekly/ bi-weekly tours as assigned.
- Prepare tablet-related materials and guides, reports, presentations, and documents as requested.
- Perform related duties and assist with special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.


Preferred Skills

- Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook etc.) proficiency - Expertise in data entry and analysis - Experience in a high-paced environment, with the ability to manage information and distribute appropriately - Ability to establish positive working relationships with multiple units and different levels of staff - Excellent writing, communication, inter-personal, analytical, research, problem-solving, and organizational skills - Proficiency in managing, utilizing, and troubleshooting digital technology - Highly organized and detail-oriented, proactive resourceful and flexible - Proven ability to communicate with staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, work effectively on a team as well and independently as needed, meet deadlines, and perform all tasks with a high level of professionalism.
