The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

ACS’ Division of Financial Services (DFS) is responsible for supporting, planning, implementing, and monitoring the fiscal functions of the agency in accordance with City, State and Federal guidelines. Within DFS, the Systems Support Office Service Management Portal (SSO-SMP) team completes approximately 1,600 requests per month for provider agencies, and Division of Child Protection case assistance in the State systems. DFS is looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented Systems Support Undergraduate Intern to join our team.

As a Systems Support Undergraduate Intern, you will support the SSO-SMP team with addressing systems-related issues and requests which may include opening/triaging foster care and preventive service cases, as well as processing foster care movements. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to work as a member of a team responsible for ensuring approximately 500+ foster care placements and movements are entered monthly to support provider reimbursement for care days, and activation of Services/Medical Assistance Interface Medicaid for children in foster care.


Key Responsibilities:

- Provide systems-related assistance across ACS Divisions, and to preventive and foster care service providers

- Respond to policy and systems-related questions, as needed

- Review and process role assignments, including inter-agency cases, role transfers, and case conversion requests submitted through the Services Management Portal

- Act as a liaison to obtain and communicate information between two or more agencies, units, and vendors

- Assist with special projects assigned by the Assistant Commissioner and Executive Director, as needed

- Enhance abilities in coordinating and executing systems-related organizational tasks

- Develop skills in collaborating across teams and towards desired outcomes

Minimum Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.


Preferred Skills

- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Systems Analysis, Data Science, Information Systems or a related field - Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) - Ability to handle confidential information with discretion - Excellent communications skills (oral and written) -Interpersonal skills with a proactive approach to problem solving - Analytical skills with a strong attention to detail - Ability to comprehend complex systems, and business processes - There is a possibility of extending this summer internship to a full year internship. As such, students from local colleges are preferred.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
