The Sustainability Data Analyst works within the Bureau of Sustainability to analyze internal and external data sources to inform policy development, implementation and administration, and to support the work of the Bureau. The Sustainability Data Analyst assists in the development of analytics and other tools to inform building energy efficiency, electrification, emissions reductions, and sustainability.
Under supervision of the Senior Sustainability Policy and Data Analyst, the Sustainability Data Analyst performs research and analysis work that is necessary to ensure compliance with energy-related codes, rules, and laws, such as:
- Uses and creates data analytic programs and software applications to support policy. development and implementation, such as decisions support systems (DSS).
- Tells data stories by building interactive dashboards and data visualizations.
- Assists with and contributes to the development and operationalization of processes to support the work of the Bureau.
- Assists with and contributes to the development and refinement of KPIs and metrics measuring sustainability and building decarbonization.
- Creates periodic and ad hoc reports on sustainability metrics.
- Supports staff at all levels across the Bureau on analytics needs.
- Ensures quality control on data streams used in sustainability metric reporting for both unit productivity, resource allocation, and industry progress.
- Supports special projects as assigned by Bureau and Agency leadership.
REMOTE WORK
This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in architecture or architectural technology; biology; building science; chemistry; construction management; energy management; engineering, engineering technology; environmental science; facilities management; physics; or a related field; or
2. Completion of an apprentice program, a minimum of two (2) years in length, in a construction trade with an emphasis on energy efficiency for buildings and two (2) years of satisfactory, full-time experience in energy generation or conservation work such as planning, developing, implementing, inspecting, analyzing, testing, and verifying interventions to generate clean energy or reduce energy usage; or
3. Four (4) years of satisfactory, full-time experience in energy generation or conservation work such as planning, developing, implementing, inspecting, analyzing, testing, and verifying interventions to generate clean energy or reduce energy usage; or
4. Education and/or experience equivalent to “1,” “2,” or “3” above. One (1) year of acceptable experience will be credited for every 30 semester credits of undergraduate education in any of the fields described in “1” above. One (1) year of acceptable experience will be credited for a master’s degree in any of the fields described in “1” above.
Special Note
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II, candidates other than Professional Engineers or Registered Architects must have either:
a) A Bachelor of Architecture degree that is the first professional degree in architecture from an accredited college; or
b) A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and a master’s degree in building science, energy management, or engineering from an accredited college or university; or
c) After meeting the minimum qualification requirements, a master’s degree in any of the fields described in “1” above.
d) After meeting the minimum qualification requirements, one (1) additional year of experience as described in “4” above.
Required Skills - Masters degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of specialization, including mathematics, data science, statistics, public health, or physical, biological, or environmental science. - Strong quantitative and data analysis skills. - Proficient in Python, R, and/or Power BI - Experience with SQL, geospatial analysis, and GIS - Strong creative problem solving and analytical skills - Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint - Ability to present findings in clear, concise, consistent, and organized manner - Ability to manage time effectively, meet tight deadlines, multi-task, and manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment Preferred Skills - Strong interest in learning and understanding new and complex agency processes across a variety of disciplines - Experience developing data modeling and machine learning analysis/tools - Experience supporting IT software production and operation - Experience supporting web development and use of JavaScript and/or HTML - Experience with statistical analysis, mathematical modeling, and knowledge of statistical packages and other relevant tools - Experience effectively visualizing data analysis by using tools such as ArcGIS, Tableau, Power BI and others - Experience effectively communicating technical findings and principles to a non-technical audience - Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
