The Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC)_Chest Clinics uses Radiology Technicians to perform core service functions at its facilities. To operate within law and provide proper guidance to lower-level technologists, a supervising technologist is assigned the task of managing staff and BPHC's X-ray Suites. The BPHC_Chest Clinic's primary function is to identify, diagnose and treat persons who have confirmed/suspected tuberculosis disease or latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI). Central to initial diagnosis of TB disease and infection is the use of chest radiographs (X-ray). The only persons authorized to do chest X-rays are licensed Radiology Technologists. Currently, there are four BPH chest clinics (three open).
DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Develop policies and procedures adequate to operate X-ray equipment per NYS and federal guidelines.
Supervise lower-level X-ray Technologists and other assigned staff: - Assigns work, evaluates performance, develops & delivers training, etc. - Address performance, time and leave, and HR-related issues timely. - Provides written and verbal feedback to staff as needed.
Develop and maintain a rotating schedule for X-Ray Technicians to keep them acquainted with all phases of technician work.
Serve as technical subject matter expert (SME) to supervisor, BPHC & divisional leadership.
Supervise the opening of new technical units or installation/upgrade of new equipment; and inspects installations to ensure that proper techniques are being deployed.
Orders supplies, approves requisitions for equipment, OTPS and repairs, etc.
Takes X-ray per order from a licensed physician using the principle of ALARA ( As Low As Reasonably Achievable ).
Prepares and positions patients for taking X-Ray pictures according to standard procedures or as prescribed by a physician.
Executes the proper digital radiography (DR) and synapse protocols.
Complete patients' X-ray by correctly using radiation equipment.
Maintain safety procedures for X-ray equipment.
Maintains the DR an X-ray equipment before and after use.
Effectively assess patient's information or status.
Use standard procedures to identify the correct patient using at least to identifier (full name, DOB, etc.); inputs or corrects demographics data in RIS.
Perform daily quality control and quality assurance at assigned X-ray suites.
Use PACS/RIS to process patients and X-rays.
Identify anomalies in RIS/PACS and takes direct or collaborative actions to correct errors.
Work independently to solve moderate level problems and assist lower-level X-ray Technologists.
Create service request tickets to IT-Unit staff or PACS/RIS vendors as needed.
Read's radiation does device monthly for self and assigned staff; making proper notification to the supervisor, if there are issues with readings.
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and a valid license as a General Radiological Technologist issued by the State of New York. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment in this title.
NOTES:
1. For appointment to Assignment Level III, in addition to meeting the above
requirement, all candidates must have two years of satisfactory, full-time
experience as an X-Ray Technician, which must have been in a supervisory
capacity.
2. For assignment to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner only, one year of
satisfactory full-time experience operating X-Ray apparatus and auxiliary
equipment may be substituted for the above-cited license.
Supervisory experience 3 years+ Knowledge of PACS/RIS, DR/CR, Scheduling staff, Experience hosting City/state inspection of X-ray Suites Valid license with NYS to practice Willing to travel as needed to multiple sites-City wide coverage Will have to provide X-ray tech coverage as needed.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
