Job Description
The Department of Transportation is hiring a Supervisor Painter who will report to the Ferry Maintenance Facility. The Supervisor Painter, supervises, directs and is responsible for the work of painters and other assigned personnel in connection with interior and exterior painting on commercial and industrial DOT properties and performs related work. The Supervisor Painter will be responsible for the following: Supervises and is responsible for the work of painters in inside and outside painting of a general nature including all coats, filling, priming, matching colors, and mixing paints. Assigns and lays out work for painters. Inspects and checks work progress in all stages to completion. Examines the work of contractors, evaluates adherence to contract specifications and directs changes to conform to the contract. Selects proper type of ladder, scaffold, or platform for any job. Takes off quantities from plans and specifications. Requisitions required materials and equipment. Keeps records and makes reports.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
Preference will be given to candidates who possess a Driver's License valid in the state of New York. Employees must maintain this license throughout the duration of their employment with DOT.

TWIC REQUIREMENT: Once selected for employment at the Staten Island Ferry, federal regulations require that the applicant must either undergo a federal background check as part of the Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) program or already possess a TWIC. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Requirements: By the last day of the Application Period you must have:

1. Six years of full time satisfactory experience as a painter acquired within the last fifteen years, one year of which must have been spent performing the duties of a supervising painter; or

2. Not less than four years of such experience plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of the remaining required experience. Six months of acceptable experience will be credited for each year of approved trade or vocational school.
However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as a supervising painter acquired within the last fifteen years.
