JOB DESCRIPTION
The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations, and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

The Life-Safety Systems Division is responsible for enhancing and preserving the continuity and support of PSAC (Public Safety Answering Center) E-911 Systems including the Citywide Public Safety Communications Radio Infrastructure. This includes managing and supporting the IT systems for the Communications Section (911) and law enforcement personnel in the field.

The duties of the Supervisor of Radio Repair Operations include but are not limited to the following:
- Authors and updates Technical Bulletins, acts as a technical contributor and provides knowledge transfer
- Supervises the technical repair work of subordinates, including the installation, alignment and tuning of land mobile and marine transmitters, receivers, voting receivers, Base Station transmitters, power supplies, radio dispatch consoles, audio amplifiers, multiplex systems, Transmission Control Protocol /Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) equipment, land mobile radio to broadband wireless network interface systems (i.e. WAVE, Kodiak, etc.) and all related equipment.
- Opens trouble tickets, schedules and delegates work assignments to subordinates, monitors the progress of ongoing repairs, assists subordinates in resolving difficult technical problems.
- Prepares annual evaluations for subordinates.
- Responds to and or delegates repair personnel to correct disruptions to Communications Services
- Advises and cooperates with agency supervisors on technical evaluations of new products and specifications compliance. May be required to develop new specifications for new products or systems.
- Prepares productivity reports.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
A first class Federal Communications Radio telephone license with radar endorsement and a valid New York State Driver's License. In addition all candidates must have:
1) Eight years recent experience in the two-way mobile radio industry as a repairman; or

2) not less than six years of such experience plus sufficient training of a relevant nature acquired in an approved trade or vocational high school, college, or training program to make up a total of eight years of creditable experience. Six months of creditable experience will be credited for each year of approved education or training.
