Job Description

This vacancy has now expired.

The Supervisor Plumber is responsible to directly supervise and coordinate all plumbers and helpers in the Fire Safety Department; abate emergencies and schedule inspection, testing, maintenance, repairs, replacements, modifications, and installations of fire protection systems throughout NYCHA properties; provide technical assistance.

Responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following:

- Conduct field inspections.
- Oversee scheduled and off-line appointments to ensure court cases, violations, routine tickets, and fire jobs are addressed in a timely manner.
- Create, review, and track work orders and create material orders.
- Perform quality control inspection of shops and work sites; train staff.
- Estimate job requirements and specifications; perform field surveys and work with NYCHA departments and developments to abate emergencies and review plan specifications.
- Review blueprints; attend pre-bid and pre-design meetings for contract work; inspect contract work.
- File all permits, post approval amendments, emergency work notices, and limited alteration applications with authorization agencies.
- Provide guidance and direct oversight of trades in conducting permitted work.
- Request, conduct and witness initial and recurring performance test with DOB and FNDY
- Maintain tool, equipment, and vehicle accountability.
- Perform administrative duties.

Additional Information
1. Due to the existence of a civil service list, candidates must have permanent civil service status in the title of Supervisor Plumber to apply.
2. This position is open on a direct transfer (lateral) basis only. It is not open as a promotional opportunity.

This position requires:
A valid NYC Master Fire Suppression Piping Contractor Class A’ License as defined in 28-410.3 of the NYC Administrative Code
A valid driver's license.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Seven (7) years of recent, satisfactory, full-time, paid experience as a plumber, at least two (2) years of which must have been spent in duties of a supervisory nature; or
2. A satisfactory equivalent.


Preferred Skills

1. Advanced knowledge of the Plumbing and Fire Code of NYC and Rules of the FDNY as applied to water-based fire suppression and kitchen suppression systems. 2. Experience with fire sprinkler, standpipe, underground water distribution, and kitchen suppression system installations and repairs. 3. FDNY Certificate of Fitness S-12, S-13
