Job Description
The Division of Adult Services provides an array of services for homeless single adults and adult families (families with no minor children). While in shelter, staff focus on diverting clients back to permanent housing, working closely with them to identify other permanent housing options through subsidies, supportive housing, or independent living. Specifically, the Division is responsible for the oversight and contract monitoring as well as social services delivery to approximately 20,340 Single Adults and 2,500 Adult Families which is comprised of more than 5,000 individuals. They ensure that services to the City's most vulnerable population are delivered 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year and throughout the five boroughs.
The Department of Homeless Services is recruiting for one (1) Recreation Supervisor to function as a Supervisor, who will:
- Be responsible for planning and supervising the recreational activities/programs designed to engage the different populations in shelter.
- Supervise work of subordinate employees.
- Prepare stipend agreements, coordinate monthly disbursements, maintain an accurate ledge for record keeping and sub impress fund reimbursement.
- Demonstrate, teach and lead recreational activities, such as group and team games, arts and crafts, dances, gymnastics and simple forms of music and dramatics.
- Organize and promote events for special occasions such as holiday events.
- Issue and collect supplies and equipment.
- Regularly inspect recreational areas and equipment for safety.
- Attend community meetings as assigned.
- Must be available evenings and weekends.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory, full-time experience in recreation leadership; or
2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above.
- Experience with events coordination and planning. - Proficient with Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Publisher. - Excellent written and oral communication skills. - Effective decision-making and negotiation skills.
