The New York City Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC) is the agency responsible for regulating New York City's taxicab and for-hire vehicle industry. TLC licenses and regulates over 130,000 vehicles and more than 175,000 drivers, making it the most active taxi and limousine regulatory agency in the United States. Aside from vehicles and drivers, TLC also regulates taxicab agents and for-hire vehicle bases, including popular app-based transportation services. The TLC plays a pivotal role in furthering public safety within New York City and is a lead agency in a citywide effort to reduce traffic-related injuries. One of the largest components of TLC’s operations is the enforcement of agency and administrative code regulations.

The Prosecution Division investigates and prosecutes summonses issued by TLC which consist of administrative, field and consumer-initiated complaints. Our division prosecutes a wide range of violations including reckless driving, unlicensed operation, illegal street pickups, harassment and leaving the scene of an accident. Under the leadership of the Managing Attorney for Prosecution, and the direct supervision of the Senior Supervising Attorney, the Supervising Attorney of the Settlements will assist the Senior Supervising Attorney in the daily management of the Settlements Unit and will primarily focus on overseeing the division’s processing and issuance of stipulations based upon individual and batch settlement requests. The Supervising Attorney of Settlements will also supervise, provide general guidance to monitor the performance of attorneys assigned to the Settlements unit. The Supervising Attorney’s duties will also include training Settlements Unit prosecutors on new and existing tasks and policies required in the Settlements unit; compiling and dispatching the LARS report, other reports and Withdrawal list to OATH; liaising with other departments regarding compliance and licensing issues; and lifting revocations/suspensions as required.


Minimum Qualifications

1. Admission to the New York State Bar; and either "2" or "3" below.
2. One year of satisfactory United States legal experience subsequent to admission to any state bar; or
3. Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Interne (30086).
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements:
To be assigned to Assignment Level (AL) II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment. To be assigned to AL III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.


Preferred Skills

The preferred candidate should possess the following: excellent written and verbal communication skills effective problem-solving skills ability to manage multiple high-level tasks simultaneously under tight deadlines and prior academic or professional experience in litigation and customer relations preferred.
