JOB TITLE: One (1) Summer Intern

SUMMARY:

The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City government's chief financial agency. OMB's staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayor’s expense and capital budgets, which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities.

Our team examines operations at OMB and city agencies with the goal of gaining more efficient, cost-effective services and improved outcomes.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The intern will lead the following project under general supervision, with latitude for independent initiative and judgement:

- Collaborate with the management team to enhance processes and strategies, aiming to improve efficiency and ownership across various divisions of City government.
- Review and analyze agency projects and processes to identify opportunities for improvement in efficiency and effectiveness.
- Conduct policy and industry research to support ongoing projects.
- Provide clerical assistance including scheduling, note-taking, and correspondence.
- Perform other administrative tasks as needed to support the team.


Minimum Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective interne must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.

Preferred Skills: - Strong analytical skills. - Decision-making- the ability to make informed decisions based on available information. This involves analyzing options, weighing pros and cons. - Strategic thinking- being able to think critically and strategically. - Problem-solving- resolve challenges and problems that require effective problem-solving skills. Being able to identify issues, analyze root causes. - Project management- familiarity with project management methodologies, such as planning, organizing. - Problem-solving abilities- Having the ability to think critically and come up with creative solutions to challenges. REQUIREMENTS: Undergraduate interns must be currently enrolled or accepted into an accredited college or university. Strong analytical, research and communications skills are required. Candidates must have familiarity in MS Word and Excel To participate in the OMB Summer Internship Program, undergraduate students must be enrolled or accepted into a college or university. Compensation/Duration: Summer Undergraduate Intern $16.50 per hour Internships will run for 10 weeks, from June 3, 2024 to August 9, 2024. The work must be done during the regular workday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – no evenings or weekends.
