SUMMARY:

The Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) is the City government's chief financial agency. OMB's staff of analysts and experts assembles and oversees the Mayor’s expense and capital budgets, which fund the services and activities of approximately 90 City agencies and entities.

OMB’s Learning & Development (L&D) unit designs, implements, and communicates programs that help employees develop their skills, perform effectively, and grow in their careers. L&D collaborates with all divisions, task forces, and units within OMB.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The New York City Mayor’s Office of Management and Budget (OMB) seeks a Communications & Marketing Intern join our small L&D team.
High-impact role: Unlike typical internships, you'll work like full-time staff during our busiest season. Expect meaningful responsibilities supporting training programs that strengthen skills across 500+ OMB employees with just our small core team.

Responsibilities:
- Draft/send training announcements, emails, newsletters.
- Create marketing materials, follow up emails, and promotional content.
- Manage L&D calendars and message timing.
- Update intranet pages and web content for training programs.
- Maintain consistent branding across all communications.
- Record and edit short training videos or demos.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Preferred:
- Excellent written communication, proofreading, and marketing copywriting.
- Graphic design experience for promotional materials (Canva, Photoshop, PowerPoint).
- Web content management or basic web design skills.
- Experience with newsletters or audience-targeted campaigns.
- Video recording/editing (phone apps, iMovie, CapCut, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve).
- Highly organized; comfortable managing multiple deadlines.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook) and quick to learn new technology.
- Proactive with strong interpersonal and creative problem-solving skills.

Bonus:

- Keeping projects on track.
- Making processes more efficient.
- HTML or basic coding.

REQUIREMENTS:

A cover letter is required to be considered for this position. Applications submitted without a cover letter will not be considered.

Undergraduate interns must be currently enrolled or accepted into an accredited college or university. Strong analytical, research and communications skills are required. Candidates must have familiarity in MS Word and Excel

To participate in the OMB Summer Internship Program, undergraduate students must be enrolled or accepted into a college or university.

Compensation/Duration:

Summer Undergraduate Intern $17.50 per hour

Internships will run for 10 weeks, from June 1, 2026, to August 7, 2026. The work must be done during the regular workday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. – no evenings or weekends.

This is a hybrid position with in-person days located at OMB’s offices at 255 Greenwich Street

Minimum Qualifications

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program, June - August each year.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
