The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child maltreatment. In juvenile justice, ACS oversees detention, placement, and programs for youth in the community.

ACS’ Division of Policy, Planning and Measurement (PPM) collaborates with every ACS division to bring knowledge to practice. PPM guides systems analysis and strategic systems improvement; assures quality of practice at ACS and its provider agencies; professionalizes the front-line workforce; brings knowledge into practice; provides research and analytic support; and plans and develops new programs and policies.

Within PPM, the Office of Strategy, Innovation and Planning (SIP) guides strategy, capacity building, systems design and reform across ACS. SIP is committed to collaborative practices designed around the principles of community engagement, transparency, and cultural humility. The primary functions of the team include policy and data analysis, strategy design and innovation, program management and implementation support, participatory research and design, and continuous quality improvement and sustainability.

PPM is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Strategy, Innovation and Planning Undergraduate Intern to join our team.

As a Strategy, Innovation and Planning Graduate Intern, you will support day-to-day operations of the Office of Strategy, Innovation and Planning in efforts to promote openness and partnership across ACS' divisions in efforts to make positive change for the children and families of New York City. This internship offers an excellent opportunity to serve as a member of a team responsible for bringing a racial equity and social justice lens, and systems orientation to its work.

Key Responsibilities:

- Provide administrative support on projects, including preparing data visualizations, presentations, meeting minutes, and training objectives

- Collect and organize quantitative and qualitative data from stakeholders

- Assist with conducting research and analysis on system improvement, implementation, and policy reform

- Support project evaluation and planning support of system-wide initiatives

Learning Outcomes:

- Gain hands-on experience implementing collaborative practices designed around the principles of community engagement, transparency, and cultural humility within a government organization

- Enhance abilities in policy and data analysis, strategy design and innovation, program management, research and design, and continuous quality improvement and sustainability

- Strengthen skills in coordinating and executing organizational tasks in a professional setting

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.

- Strong communication and data storytelling skills with the ability to build good relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, and explain complex topics in simple terms - Ability to synthesize information to identify interesting research questions, define an analytical approach, and carry out the appropriate analyses - Knowledge of data visualization tools (such as Tableau, PowerBI) - Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
