The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law, preserve peace, protect the people, reduce fear, and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police, and by pioneering strategic innovation.

Serves as a confidential assistant to the Police Commissioner. This is a highly trusted administrative professional responsible for managing sensitive and confidential information, providing comprehensive administrative support to the Police Commissioner, and coordinating various tasks related to the day-to-day operations of the Police Department, often requiring discretion and a strong understanding of law enforcement procedures. Key responsibilities include:

- Highly Confidential Tasks:
Manage sensitive documents, including personnel files, internal investigations, and confidential correspondence, ensuring strict confidentiality.
Screen incoming calls and visitors, directing only those with legitimate business to the Commissioner.
Prepare and distribute confidential reports and presentations.


- Administrative Support:
Manage the Police Commissioner's calendar, schedule meetings and appointments, and make travel arrangements.
Compose and proofread official correspondence, memos, and emails on behalf of the Police Commissioner.
Prepare agendas and minutes for meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
Coordinate logistics for special events, conferences, and community outreach initiatives.

- Information Management:
Maintain comprehensive filing systems for sensitive documents and records
Research and compile data for reports and presentations as needed
Monitor and respond to urgent issues requiring immediate attention


- Liaison and Communication:
Act as a primary point of contact for internal and external inquiries directed to the Police Commissioner.
Communicate effectively with Bureau heads, elected officials, and the public.
Facilitate smooth communication between the Police Commissioner's office and other Bureaus within the Police Department.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
