In order to be considered for this position, the candidate must be serving permanently in the Transportation Specialist title, or must be reachable on the Open-Competitive Transportation Specialist list, Exam # 3027, or be eligible under the 55a program.

Traffic Operations is seeking to hire an STIC (Signal Timing and Intersection Control) Coordinator, who will be responsible for the coordination of design, review, technical analyses and recommendations for signal timing modifications, traffic signal studies, and All-Way studies. The candidate will be responsible for the coordination of study assignments and reviews for signal warrant and signal timing reviews for SIP and Transit Signal Priority (TSP) projects as well as outside agency projects to ensure that they follow DOT’s requirements and guidelines for signals operations. Effective communication, project management and coordination among staff of differing professional backgrounds both internal and external to the group is essential. The candidate will also be expected to coordinate with other external agencies including DDC, MTA, DOP, DEP, NYPD, FDNY. The candidate should expect to attend meetings with the Borough Commissioner’s staff, elected officials, etc.

Both Signal Timing and Intersection Control are vital in supporting the agency’s safety goals and Vision Zero initiatives including the Street Improvement Projects (SIP). The primary function of this unit is to conduct studies to determine the need for additional traffic control devices, and to conduct studies to determine signal timing modifications, as well as the review of signal warrant analysis and signal timing studies for transportation projects (internal in-house and capital projects as well as outside agency capital projects).


This position may be eligible for remote work up to 2 days per week, pursuant to the Remote Work Pilot Program agreed to between the City and DC37.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A master's degree in transportation engineering, mathematics, urban planning, architecture, landscape architecture, urban studies, or related physical and social science fields; or

2. A baccalaureate degree in engineering from an accredited college and one year of full-time satisfactory experience performing technical work on roadway transportation and traffic studies and area-wide traffic programs; or

3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "2" above; or

4. An associate degree or completion of 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "2" above; or

5. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in "2" above.

SPECIAL NOTE:

In addition to meeting the minimum Qualification Requirements above:

To be assigned to Assignment Level II, the candidate must have an additional year of experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" listed under "2" above.

To be assigned to Assignment Level III, the candidate must have an additional two years of experience as described in the "Qualification Requirements" listed under "2" above.

- Should be detail-orientated, accurate, have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team. - Be organized and capable of multi-tasking, and have excellent editing and strong written/oral communication skills. - Candidate must have very strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access, AutoCAD, Synchro Studio, HCM 2000, Visual, AGI, TCS, IQ link, and Thru- Traffic. - Should have a valid NYS Driver’s License. - Excellent verbal communication skills.
