NYC Parks is an award-winning city agency that builds and cares for public spaces for New Yorkers to connect, play and enjoy. These public spaces, encompassing over 5,000 properties and 14% of the city’s land and coastline, include seawalls and waterfronts, pedestrian bridges, beaches and boardwalks, parks and playgrounds, historic houses, recreation centers and pools.

Major Responsibilities
- Repair and maintain pneumatic thermostat and controls.
- Install boilers, feedwater, vacuum and condensate equipment, fuel oil piping and related auxiliary equipment.
- Remove, repair and reinstall pumps.
- Stop and repair leaks as they occur.
- May work with welding and brazing equipment.
- Maintain and replace all system pipes and valves as needed.
- Complete reactive and preventative maintenance paperwork.
- Assist in emergencies as needed.
- Works according to the schedule prepared by the supervisor.
- Return all work areas to a clean, neat, orderly and safe condition.
- Learn, understand and compile with fire, safety, and other emergency practices.
- Participate in training directed at increasing maintenance and other job-related skills.
- Perform related work as required.

Fees: Hired candidates will be subject to a processing fee of $101.00. Hired candidates who are not currently employed by the City will be subject to an $88.25 background check fee.

Duration: This position is from Fall 2023 to March 31, 2024
40 hours per week.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Five years of full-time satisfactory experience as a Steam Fitter; or

2. Not less than two and one-half years of such experience plus sufficient full-time experience as a helper or apprentice or relevant education or training to make up a total of five years of acceptable experience. Six months of experience will be credited for each year of apprenticeship or helper experience or for each year of completed approved trade or vocational school training in the steam fitting field.

License Requirement

3. For appointment to certain agencies, candidates must possess a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York. The license must be maintained for the duration of employment.


Preferred Skills

1. Possession of Class A Commercial Driver License valid in the State of New York. 2. Experience in working with diverse teams in an urban setting. 3. Willing to work in inclement weather and able to perform intense and physically demanding work. 4. Considerable knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, equipment, and techniques of the trade. 5. Ability to keep records of activities performed. 6. Ability to read and understand blueprints and drawings. 7. Considerable knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade. 8. Ability to locate, diagnose, and correct defects and malfunctions on a variety of heat system equipment. 9. Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.

Residency Requirement

Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
