NYC Parks is an award-winning city agency that builds and cares for public spaces for New Yorkers to connect, play and enjoy. These public spaces, encompassing over 5,000 properties and 14% of the city’s land and coastline, include seawalls and waterfronts, pedestrian bridges, beaches and boardwalks, parks and playgrounds, historic houses, recreation centers and pools. We seek a qualified Stationary Engineers for 5 months (temporary position) to maintain and operate heating, refrigeration, or other types of systems essential for our operations.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Under supervision operate, maintain, and adjust steam power plant and electronic mechanical building equipment.
- Operate, maintain, and adjust boilers, furnaces, engines, pumps, heat exchangers, generators, motors, equipment for heating, ventilating, air conditioning, lighting and associated equipment in public buildings and pumping stations.
- Make periodic inspections of equipment and minor repairs to such equipment.
- Operate control consoles and building management systems in control rooms.
- Prepare requisitions for materials and spare parts.
- Instruct and train subordinates and other personnel.
- Read and log meters, gauges, and other recording devices.
- Perform preventative maintenance. Inspect low-pressure boilers in accordance with a unified inspection procedure instituted by the New York City Department of Buildings. Keep records and produce reports.
Fees: Hired candidates will be subject to a processing fee of $101.00. Hired candidates who are not currently employed by the City will be subject to an $88.25 background check fee.
Duration: This position is from Fall 2023 to March 31, 2024

A valid license for High Pressure Boiler Operating Engineer issued by the New York City Department of Buildings. This license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
1. Experience with ammonia refrigeration systems. 2. New York State 7G Pesticide Applicator or Technician’s certificate issued by NYSDEC. 3. Possession of “Certified Pool Operator” certificate. 4. Experience with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) such as Infor or Archibus proficiency in Microsoft Office. 5. Excellent communication and organizational skills. 6. Ability to work rotating shifts, nights and weekends as needed.
