The New York City Fire Pension Fund is seeking a full-time Accountant Level l/ Staff Accountant in the Accounting Unit, reporting directly to the Deputy Chief Accountant. The position requires confidence, initiative and attention to details. A solid candidate must have in-depth accounting and financial reporting skill sets. The Accounting Unit is responsible for the daily general accounting function, banking and the annual financial statements preparation.

Under direct supervision, the selected candidate will be performing the following duties:

- Responsible for the preparation and reconciliation of monthly/annual financial reports.
- Posting of accounts payable journal entries into the accounting system.
- Analyzes bank accounts and investment bank data.
- Perform bank reconciliations for several bank accounts.
- Enter journal entries into the accounting system.
- Reconcile the accounting trial balance to the respective source documents.
- Assist in the year-end financial closing process by entering journal entries, reconcile benefit payments, reconcile investment reports and interact with other units.
- Work on any ad hoc projects as designated by the Chief and/or the Deputy Chief Accountant.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting and auditing; or
2. A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I or at least two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience.

- Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. - Strong ability to perform analytical and detail-oriented tasks with great attention to accuracy. - Strong written and verbal communication skills. - Strong computer skills and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
