Job Description

The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets.

The Sr. Engagement Coordinator will support the Department’s engagement efforts. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Support executive management at community board meetings and various events organized by elected officials and community groups.

- Support executive management in expanding the Department’s engagement with the recognized Affiliated Organizations to ensure a strong connection between Department leadership and the constituents of each affiliation.

- Manage logistics related to all Department engagement events, including scheduling and preparing materials.

- Work closely and collaboratively with the executive team to effectively promote the agency’s priorities to critical stakeholders to achieve desired outcomes.

Minimum Qualifications

1. Graduation from an accredited college with a Baccalaureate degree plus specialized training in public management and evaluation.


Preferred Skills

- 10 plus years experience supporting executive leadership, and coordinating interagency initiatives. - Experience managing complex projects across municipal government. - Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to deal with a wide range of stakeholders - Excellent ability to communicate clearly and effectively in-person, by telephone, and by email, and through written correspondence able to tailor complex messages to diverse audiences including executive-level staff. - Strong organizational skills.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
