Job Description
The successful candidate is a detail and financial-oriented professional who will analyze and reconcile records efficiently to meet deadlines on a wide range of financial accounting activity. The successful candidate will analyze financial account data, handle multiple assignments, effectively communicate externally and internally, and resolve open items with a member-focused approach. The successful candidate should also be able to assist in the modernization efforts.
The Senior Accounting Specialist responsibilities include, and are not limited, to the following:
- Handle incoming inquiries from the Call Center related to banking services, provide expert guidance on complex questions and retrieve financial data and information for various pensioners inquiries.
- Process reissued check work-list and run uncashed checks notices. Generate letters to/communicate with pensioners regarding check reissue requests.
- Monitor electronic fund transfers (EFT) replacement check records and offer solutions to open complex items. Support other unit’s processes, such as EFT processing/reversals/transmissions and reconciliation.
- Participate in analysis and evaluation of accounting computations and reports for annual and interim financial statements.
- Review and provide recommendation to unit procedures and analyze unit activity dashboard.
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA), including or supplemented by 24 semester credits in accounting, including one course each in advanced accounting and auditing; or
2. A valid New York State Certified Public Accountant license.
To be eligible for placement in Assignment Level II individuals must have, in addition to meeting the minimum requirements, at least one year of experience as an Accountant - Assignment Level I or at least two years of satisfactory full-time professional accounting or auditing experience.
- 2+ years of satisfactory full-time experience in the accounting field and experience with accounting computations. - Knowledge of accounting GAAP rules and principals, banking transactions and reconciliation processes - Strong Microsoft Office knowledge and application, specifically Excel - experience using various financial formulas and data extraction such as Vlookup and data merging. - Must be a results-oriented analytical thinker. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills. - Must have excellent time management skills.
