NYC Department of Finance (DOF) is responsible for administering the tax revenue laws of the city fairly, efficiently, and transparently to instill public confidence and encourage compliance while providing exceptional customer service.
The Sheriff’s Office serves and enforces court mandates, orders of protection, warrants, decrees, and property seizures. Additionally, the Sheriff’s Office conducts criminal investigations of real property fraud, tax crimes, and the trafficking of illegal and untaxed tobacco products and synthetic narcotics, and monitors defendants referred by the courts for electronic monitoring.
Under supervision, performs Special Officer duties of ordinary difficulty and responsibility to provide physical security, safety, and maintenance of order in accordance with agency orders and procedures. Uses computers and operates electronic security and safety monitoring systems and other equipment and devices. May operate a motor vehicle to perform duties. Reports directly to the First Deputy Sheriff.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct patrols in designated areas to maintain order and safety, Report observed security and safety hazards directly to the First Deputy Sheriff.
- Maintain records of daily actions in a memo book, including logs of individuals entering or leaving buildings.
- Monitor and report unusual events from security systems, maintain and secure assigned equipment and property, and coordinate repairs as needed.
- Screens visitors entering and/or leaving the premises
- Responds to and reports emergency and security incidents and unusual occurrences and submits written reports
- Remain physically active for prolonged periods of time
- Conducts patrol; walking and/or standing as assigned.
- All other duties as assigned

License Requirement:
A motor vehicle driver license valid in the State of New York is required for appointment to positions in certain agencies. If required, this license must be maintained for the duration of employment.
1. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization; and
2. Individuals serving in this title are designated as Peace Officers by the New York State Criminal Procedure Law. Therefore, all candidates must be qualified to serve as Peace Officers. Incumbents must satisfy the training requirements established by the State of New York for Peace Officers and obtain certification. Once obtained, this certification must be maintained for the duration of employment.
