The Team You’ll Work With:
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice advances policies that promote a more equitable and vibrant New York City. The portfolio includes the City’s economic, cultural, and labor agencies, including but not limited to the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development, the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC), and the Department of Small Business Services (SBS).

The Problems You’ll Solve:
New York City’s rising cost of living has increasingly put pressure on residents, workers, and institutions across every neighborhood and sector. Sustaining a dynamic, accessible city requires intentional support for career-sustaining jobs, worker development, and the economic ecosystems that allow communities to thrive. The Deputy Chief of Staff plays a central role in supporting the executive leadership of the office and ensuring the smooth day-to-day operation of the portfolio. Under the direction of the Chief of Staff and in close coordination with the Deputy Chief of Staff, the Special Assistant will help advance this work by performing the following functions:

- Executive and Office Operations Support – Assist the Deputy Mayor, Chief of Staff, and Deputy Chief of Staff with day-to-day office operations.
- Advance and Staffing – Manage daily logistics, schedules, and travel with the Deputy Mayor to ensure the daily operations run seamlessly.
- Internal and External Communications Coordination – Work closely with staff responsible for coordinating with agencies, City Hall offices, and team members to execute necessary administrative and procedural tasks.
- General Support – Prepare briefing memos, conduct background research, coordinate meetings, and respond to correspondence from key stakeholders across the business and economic sectors.

- You are highly organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- You are a personable and entrepreneurial problem-solver.
- You have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications

- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- 1+ years of experience.


Preferred Skills

- You have experience working within government or large, complex organizations.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
