Job Description

The Agency You’ll Join:
The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five boroughs, coordinating public agencies and departments, and managing public property. The administration is leading the fight in making the city more affordable, reducing inequality, improving public safety, ensuring delivery of efficient and effective services, and working to make New York City’s economy stronger. We value leadership, transparency, fairness, and efficiency as we actively seek diverse talents from various sectors to join our team. For current job opportunities, visit our careers page.

The Team You’ll Work With:
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Economic Justice advances policies that promote a more equitable and vibrant New York City. The portfolio includes the City’s economic, cultural, and labor agencies, including but not limited to the Mayor’s Office of Talent and Workforce Development, the New York City Economic Development Corporation (EDC), and the Department of Small Business Services (SBS).

The Problems You’ll Solve:
New York City’s rising cost of living has increasingly put pressure on residents, workers, and institutions across every neighborhood and sector. Sustaining a dynamic, accessible city requires intentional support for career-sustaining jobs, worker development, and the economic ecosystems that allow communities to thrive. Under the direction of the Deputy Mayor, the Special Advisor serves as the Deputy Mayor’s principal advisor on labor policy, an economy that works for working people, and the promotion of collective bargaining across New York City’s private sector.

Working cross-functionally across the agencies and offices within the Deputy Mayor’s portfolio and building a coherent economic justice vision across the administration, the Special Advisor leads the development and coordination of the administration’s worker power agenda and ensures that city policies promote worker organizing and collective bargaining as a foundation for fair wages, stable workplaces, and shared economic growth.

The Special Advisor will also help leverage the Deputy Mayor’s national experience to improve the lives of New York City residents and advises the Deputy Mayor on labor policy and regulatory issues on the city, state, and national level that may affect New York City’s workers, unions, businesses, employers, and communities.
