The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
Information Technology Services (ITS) is DSS’s technology services organization. ITS mission is to support the daily, emergent, and long-term needs of both agencies. ITS creates and enhances the technology infrastructure and computer applications that support HRA and DHS and develops applications, including a variety of client eligibility and recertification systems, case management systems, housing systems, employment/work engagement services, revenue producing computer matches, claiming systems, and personnel systems.
Information Technology Services (ITS) is recruiting for one (1) Certified IT Administrator (LAN/WAN) III, to function as a Site LAN/WAN Administrator, who will:
- Supervise LAN Staff. Distribute work assignments, determines overtime needs and ensures
tasks are completed. Instruct or demonstrate staff members and users the proper, efficient
usage and/or installation of highly complex network operating system or related program
product software.
- Maintain superior level liaison with technical and administrative staff of other city agencies
such as DOITT, state agencies such as NYSDSS, representatives of other networks and
technical representatives of vendors of network software.
- Ensure compatibility of Microsoft Windows with enormously complex multiple networks through
recommendation of appropriate software acquisitions and upgrades. Coordinate the installation,
implementation and maintenance of multi-protocol interconnected data communications systems
operating on HRA's Enterprise-wide Agency LAN.
- Ensure the integrity and efficiency of the networks and the minimization of loss of system time
and/or resources due to system failure; coordinate and implement projects of extreme technical
complexity.
- Train/instruct associate staff in the efficient usage of highly complex network administrative tools
/programs/software/techniques to increase staff s knowledge/skills/abilities.
- Troubleshoot LAN problems and assists in repair of data communications equipment, cluster
controllers, video display terminals, and printers that comprise the network.
Professional/vendor certification(s) in local area network administration that is required for the position to be filled. In addition, all candidates must have the following:
1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and two years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) experience in local area network and/or wide area network planning, design, configuration, installation, implementation, troubleshooting, integration, performance monitoring, maintenance, enhancement, and security management; or
2. A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory full-time (not classroom based) information technology experience of which at least 2 years must have been as described in "1" or
3. A satisfactory equivalent of education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. Education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 30 undergraduate semester credits from an accredited college is equivalent to 6 months of experience. A master’s degree in computer science or a related field from an accredited college may be substitute for one year of experience. However, all candidates must have at least one year of satisfactory (not classroom based) full-time information technology experience as described in "1" above.
