THIS POSITION IS ONLY AVAILABLE TO CANDIDATES WHO HAVE RETIRED FROM CITY SERVICE. THIS POSITION IS TEMPORARY AND PART-TIME, 19 HOURS PER WEEK, AND PENSION AND BENEFITS CAN STILL BE COLLECTED WHILE EMPLOYED IN THIS POSITION.
In November 2018, New York City voters approved three ballot initiatives establishing the New York City Civic Engagement Commission. The Commission is focused on promoting civic engagement across all of City government and making New York City decision making accessible to all New Yorkers. Specifically, the Charter mandates the Commission with running a citywide participatory budgeting program, providing poll site interpretation services, providing technical assistance to community boards, partnering with community-based organizations and civic leaders to increase awareness of City services, and assisting City agencies in developing civic engagement initiatives. The Commission also oversees the Taskforce for Racial Inclusion and Equity Neighborhood Initiative.
Job Responsibilities:
The Volunteer Services Coordinator provides essential administrative and operational support to the Director of Outreach in coordinating the activities and operations of Volunteer Services including, but not limited to outreach, recruiting, event production and general program administration.
Additional responsibilities will include:
- Coordinate and participate in the production of volunteer recognition events;
- Host in-person and virtual orientation and training meetings for all volunteers;
- Serve as the main point-of-contact for current, first-time, and potential volunteers;
- Respond to general inquiries from current and potential volunteers;
- Ensure that all volunteer applications and hours are tracked and accurately recorded with Volunteer Management software;
- Produce monthly reports of volunteer activity;
- Carry out fieldwork and train volunteers to safely assist with civic engagement outreach;
- Collaborate with the Director of Outreach and program managers across the organization to identify opportunities for volunteer engagement and content for outreach messaging to prospective volunteers;
- Collaborate with the Communications Director to create recruiting and recognition material as needed and disseminate outreach messaging;
- Provide input regarding volunteer job requirements, recruiting strategies, and volunteer management;
- Support current and new initiatives within the Volunteer Services Program;
- Performs other job-related duties and functions as assigned.
SHIFT: Day 15 - 19 hours/week

Qualification Requirements
1. High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
2. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
