The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five

The Team You’ll Work With
The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Operations (DMO) works to advance the City's efforts to address
policy matters across the five boroughs, coordinate operational efforts across the City's public
agencies, improve access to services for all New Yorkers, and ensure agencies are run compassionately
and effectively. The Deputy Mayor oversees 8 city agencies and 1 mayoral office: DOT, DEP, DSNY,
Parks, DOB, DDC, SCA. TLC, and the Mayor’s Office of Climate and Environmental Justice.
The Problems You’ll Solve
The Senior Policy Advisor will be a key member of the DMO team and will oversee and advise on the
development of infrastructure and operations policy, and support the execution of large-scale,
complex projects. S/he will have the opportunity to represent the Deputy Mayor at key meetings and
public events.
The Senior Policy Advisor, working in conjunction with other members of the Deputy Mayor for
Operations team, will provide guidance on infrastructure initiatives and issues to support the
advancement of the Administration’s priorities. This will include, but is not limited to:
- Project Management – in coordination with appropriate City agencies and team members, will
assist in overseeing and monitoring projects and policy initiatives to ensure goals and timelines
are met.
- Agency Liaison – serve as a liaison between agencies and the Office of the Deputy Mayor of
Operations, to monitor projects and assist in handling day-to-day issues.
- Interagency Coordination – coordinate with agencies, boards, and commissions, organizations,
and institutions relevant to current and new policy initiatives, meet project goals and timelines,
and review agency and interagency work products. This may include coordination of outreach
to various City agencies.
- Research, Analysis, and Writing – assist other staff members in performing qualitative and
quantitative research in connection with policy proposals and sector-based initiatives. Based on
that analysis, provide recommendations – written and verbal – to relevant staff members.
- General Support – As needed, provide administrative support and coordination, including
preparation of correspondence and briefing memoranda, background research and
information, meeting planning and assistance, and answering multi-line phones
About You
- You are a graduate with a baccalaureate degree, preferably in urban planning, architecture,
landscape architecture, or design, engineering, public administration, or related fields, plus 3-5
years of full-time relevant professional experience in a field related to this position.
- You have demonstrated experience in policy, urban planning, project management, operations,
or government.
- You have exceptional written, verbal, and communication skills.
- You have strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- You have the ability to self-manage and conduct rigorous research and outreach, attention to
detail, and the ability to complete tasks in a timely fashion with minimal supervision.
- You have experience in the infrastructure or transportation policy, civic engagement, equitable
development, and/or freight fields is desirable.
- You are proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- You have a willingness to work as part of a team environment.
- You are comfortable in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
- You have New York City or state government work experience, or relevant experience, is a plus.
