The Agency You’ll Join

The New York City Mayor’s Office is responsible for overseeing city services throughout the five

The Team You’ll Work With

The Office of the Deputy Mayor for Strategic Initiatives (DMSI) ensures that City government solves
problems through holistic, accountable, and transparent means. With a focus on many of the
administration’s top priorities – from creating opportunities for young people to strengthening the
city’s civic infrastructure – the office works in partnership with stakeholders inside and outside of city
government to develop, scale, coordinate, and deliver policies, plans and operations in an equitable
and sustainable way.

The Deputy Mayor also oversees the following agencies and offices: the Department of Youth and
Community Development, the Office of Food Policy, the Office of Non-Profit Services, the Office of
Childcare and Early Childhood Education, the Center for Innovation through Data Intelligence, the
Children’s Cabinet, and the Mayor’s Office of Racial Equity and Justice.

The Problems You’ll Solve

Under the direction of the Chief Strategy Officer, the Senior Policy Advisor for Strategy and Operations
will perform the following functions:

- Youth and Family Policy and Programs – Focus on policies and programs that support children
and working families, via partnership with the Department of Youth and Community
Development, the Children’s Cabinet and CUNY.

- Strategy Development – Partner with the Chief Strategy Officer and other members of the
team to fully develop proposals for new initiatives, programs and/or inter-agency interventions
to support the goals of DMSI.

- Project Management – Oversee and monitor projects, creating project plans with clear goals
and deliverables, and ensuring timelines are met.

- Systems Creation: Cultivate a toolkit of available resources that can be applied in the team’s
engagements, including the identification and development of new templates, techniques, and
frameworks.

- Meeting Planning – Create schedules, meeting agendas, presentation decks (PowerPoints) and
follow-up materials.

- Research & Analysis – Conduct and/or assist other staff in performing qualitative and
quantitative research in connection with policy proposals, projects, and DMSI initiatives,
including the development of data visualizations.

- Communications –Create talking points and speeches for the Deputy Mayor, as needed.
Communicate to external stakeholders on behalf of the Office of the Mayor and the Office of
the Deputy Mayor as needed.

- Interagency Coordination – Coordinate with agencies, boards, commissions, and organizations
relevant to DMSI proposed initiatives, meet project goals and timelines, and review agency and
interagency work product.

- General Support –Prepare briefing memoranda, provide background research and information,
and respond to correspondence from constituents or elected officials

Minimum Qualifications

A Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and three years fulltime satisfactory professional experience related to the projects and policies to be studied in the particular position including eighteen months of experience in a managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity.

About You - You have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college, and 7+ years of related experience or master’s degree in business, public administration, economics, public policy or related fields and 5+ years of related work experience. - You can work independently and within a fast-paced environment, as well as thrive in a collaborative and supportive team environment. - You are a self-starter who positively contributes to a learning culture and collaborative team and is willing to perform the full range of tasks required in a dynamic and rapidly responsive organization. - You are able to resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion. - You are highly analytical, and data driven. - You have thorough knowledge and proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. - You have exceptional written, oral communication, and presentation skills. - You have experience of working with multiple stakeholders. - You must maintain confidentiality and use outstanding judgment daily

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
