The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person.

Under direction from the Director of Forensic Photography, the Senior Photographer will be responsible for the following duties which will include but are not limited to:
- Take, log, and archive photographs documenting every medical examiner case received by the OCME at any borough office location
- Autopsy photography is the primary assignment
- Other photography assignments may include, but is not limited to, neuropathology, cardiac pathology, evidence, scene, and mass fatality.
- Maintain proper records and archives, both written and digital
- Interact with and upload to the OCME’s digital Case Management System.
- Provide coverage for supervising, assigning, and scheduling the work of Photographers ensuring borough offices are sufficiently staffed.
- Maintain photographic equipment and may prepare requisitions for photographic supplies and equipment.
- Adhere to and monitor the OCME’s compliance with photography standard operating procedures, ensuring a high level of photographic quality throughout the agency.
- Assist OCME staff in photographic projects.
- Other related duties as assigned.
1. Four years of full-time satisfactory experience acquired within the last twelve years as a photographer; or
2. Three years of such experience as described in "l" above plus two years of training in a approved photography program; or
3. Education and/or experience equivalent to "l" or "2" above. Each
year of approved training will be considered equivalent to six months of experience. However, all candidates must have at least three years experience as a photographer.
Successful candidate should possess experience in setting up and photographing surgical and medical subject matter ability to perform photography while dressed in BBP protective gear and respirator. Candidate should also be familiar with requirements of chain of custody and proper identification of subject in photographs. A valid New York State Drivers License is preferred.
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
