The Bureau of Asset Management is responsible for oversight of the investment portfolios of the five New York City pension systems. Through a culture of collaboration, individual development, and teamwork that leverages diverse talent and strives for continuous improvement, the goal of the Bureau of Asset Management is to achieve exceptional investment outcomes for all stakeholders; to deliver outstanding support to plan Trustees; and to serve as a responsible steward of the resources of plan beneficiaries and the City of New York.

The Senior Investment Officer will assist in overseeing the investment activity for the infrastructure investment program for the five New York City pension systems. The Senior Investment Officer will report to the DCIO and Head of Infrastructure.

Under the supervision of the DCIO and Head of Infrastructure Investments, responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

- Identifying, reviewing, and evaluating prospective fund and co-investment opportunities. Conducting due diligence of co-investment opportunities; summarizing the due diligence findings in investment recommendation memoranda for presentation to the internal Investment Committee and Boards of Trustees;

- Monitoring the portfolio of existing fund and co-investments to ensure compliance with the terms of the closing documents and other contracts. Updating internal databases and analyzing the performance of existing investments;

- Reviewing deal documents and assisting various teams, including the General Counsel’s office and consultants, in negotiating terms and conditions of non-disclosure agreements, new investment agreements and other related contracts;

- Participating in fund and co-investment quarterly update calls. Writing investment update reports, briefing memoranda and meeting summaries;

- Constructing financial models as necessary for due diligence and preparing analyses used in annual implementation and strategic plans;

- Designing criteria and parameters for research analyses on market trends, strategies, industries, sectors, geographies and other topics; ensuring the accuracy of investment reporting;

- Monitor investment developments; designing reports to track Systems’ investment activity; and assisting in developing agendas for investment conferences and other events;

- Performing related assignments or special projects as required. They could include, but are not limited to evaluating and monitoring fund investments; reviewing and making recommendations with respect to amendment requests, consent notices, other contract changes and corporate governance matters; and,

- Performing other related tasks and responsibilities as may be required.


Minimum Qualifications

- A graduate degree from an accredited college or university in business, economics, finance, accounting or a closely related field, and four (4) or more years of progressively responsible experience in a financial services organization handling complex financial transactions with considerable exposure to infrastructure investments (equity or debt), or similar experience at a consulting firm/bank; or,

- BS/BA degree from an accredited college with major studies in the fields mentioned above and six (6) or more years of progressively responsible professional experience as described above; or,

- A satisfactory equivalent of education and experience mentioned above.


Preferred Skills

- Extensive demonstrated experience in a financial services firm with expertise in infrastructure or private equity - Experience in investment manager and co-investment due diligence, portfolio management, and monitoring - Chartered Financial Analyst designation - MBA or a graduate degree in Finance - Excellent financial, writing, presentation, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills - Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
