Major Responsibilities
- Under general direction, with broad latitude for the exercise of initiative, and judgment, conceptualize, initiate and execute a wide variety of NYC Parks graphic art assignments.
- Working within NYC Parks’ brand guidelines, manage design projects from concept to completion, liaising directly with divisions across the Agency as well as external partners and agencies.
- Develop original designs for print materials, merchandise, signage and other collateral.
- Establish systems for managing and maintaining brand assets and ensure consistency of all promotional materials.
- Assist in supervising a junior graphic designer in the proper execution of the Parks brand.
- Conduct brand and template trainings for employees across the Agency.
- Assist the marketing team with marketing, brainstorming and advertising strategies.
- Work with vendors and set up production-ready files.
- Create original art and illustrations.

MOVEMENT IN THE FACE OF CIVIL SERVICE LISTS IS PROHIBITED UNDER CIVIL SERVICE LAW.
(1) A baccalaureate degree, with a major in fine or graphic arts, from an accredited college and one year of full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist; or
(2) A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent plus two years of training in a technical school approved by a state’s Department of Education or comparable governmental agency, in oils, water colors, painting, design, black and white, layout, computer graphics, and other art media, and three years of acceptable full-time paid experience as a commercial or graphic artist.
To be qualified for assignment to Assignment Level II, individuals must have:
(a) at least one year of experience as a Graphic Artist, Assignment Level I; or
(b) the Qualification Requirements described in "1" or "2" above, plus two additional years of acceptable specialized paid experience conceptualizing and initiating graphic art projects.
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Graphic Design and/or Fine Art 2. 5-7 years full-time paid experience as a graphic designer 3. Expert knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite in a Mac environment 4. Excellent writing, communication, and organizational skills public speaking ability a plus. 5. Attention to detail and ability to work on multiple projects with tight deadlines. 6. Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently. 7. Environmental/interior design experience a plus.
Residency in New York City, Nassau, Orange, Rockland, Suffolk, Putnam, or Westchester counties required for employees with over two years of city service. New York City residency required within 90 days of hire for all other candidates.
