The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.
HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA’s various social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.
General Support Services (GSS) / Facilities Operations (FO) Bureau of Space and Design (BSD), is recruiting for one (1) Electrical Engineer II to function as Senior Electrical Engineer who will:
- Prepare plans and specifications for new construction, alteration, or repair of all building mechanical systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, plumbing, sprinklers, and elevators.
- Supervise consultants who may be assigned to projects.
- Conduct preliminary surveys and prepare reports and cost estimates in conjunction with Specifications Writer.
- Sketch, draft, design drawings and detailed blueprints, conduct periodic site visits to new construction, alteration, or repair of existing mechanical systems, perform inspections and submitting controlled inspector’s reports necessary for sign off on completed work.
- Work closely with agency staff, other governmental representatives, landlords, contractors, and the public, ensuring that project objectives are recognized and attained. Sign and seal engineering and other official documents, prepare preliminary scope of work for the preparation of Request for Proposals for consultant services and supervise the preparation of supplementary drawings as necessary.
ELECTRICAL ENGINEER - 20315
(1) Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in electrical engineering work; and
(2) A valid New York State Professional Engineer’s License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment.
A masters degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) may be substituted for one year of the electrical engineering experience required in “1" above.
- LEED certification is a plus
