Job Description

The Department of Social Services (DSS) is comprised of the administrative units of the New York City Human Resources Administration (HRA) and the Department of Homeless Services (DHS). HRA is dedicated to fighting poverty and income inequality by providing New Yorkers in need with essential benefits such as Food Assistance and Emergency Rental Assistance. DHS is committed to preventing and addressing homelessness in New York City by employing a variety of innovative strategies to help families and individuals successfully exit shelter and return to self-sufficiency as quickly as possible.

HRA/General Support Services (GSS) provides safe, healthy, and appropriate facilities for HRA’s various social service programs. Its many functions include facilities planning and coordination, design and construction, renovation, repair and maintenance, custodial and other building services, health/safety program coordination, lease and property management, land use and environmental review activities, contract administration for facilities services, and warehouse operations. GSS plays a major role in HRA emergency preparedness.

General Support Services/Print Shop is looking to hire one (1) Clerical Associate III to work as Senior Distribution Worker under the general supervision of the Mail Coordinator with minor latitude for independent action or decision, who will:

- Prepare Postal Mailing Documents including Work Orders; Tray Tags; Inserts, etc. for all platforms for each group of mail for review and approval by the Mail Coordinator.

- Sorts mail items by size, weight appearance etc. as required by the United States Postal Service.

- Sorts and separates mail by zip code designation to obtain postage discount.

- Enter required data in Postal Business Service Gateway for daily mail entry at BMU.

- Count verification of Negotiable Documents using Batch Control provided by Production Control to assure item integrity.

- Pulls and cancels checks/Food Stamp documents as specified by management user staff or the Office of Inspector General/Department of Investigation Staff.

- Provide quality assurance spot checks 2x daily and log.

- Close out Work Orders daily.

- Provide daily reporting to Director of late mailings and data enters piece counts by customer in Excel spreadsheet to calculate costs. Sends report to Management for review and sign-off prior to submission to Finance.

- Assist in mail insertion process where needed.


Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements
A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Skills Requirement
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County.
